Nifedipine (tocolysis)

Dose

20 mg PO stat, then 10–20 mg q6–8 h for up to 48 h.

Use

Tocolysis to allow antenatal steroids and in-utero transfer.

Monitoring

Maternal BP and pulse, fetal heart rate, avoid combining with IV magnesium hypotension.

Side effects

  • Flushing
  • Headache
  • Hypotension
  • Tachycardia
