Tranexamic Acid
Dose
1 g IV over 10 min then 1 g over 8 h (trauma/PPH); 1 g PO TDS for menorrhagia.
Contraindications
- • Active intravascular clotting
- • Subarachnoid haemorrhage (relative)
Use
Trauma haemorrhage within 3 h, PPH, menorrhagia, epistaxis, surgical bleeding.
Monitoring
Clinical bleeding; caution with prior thrombosis.
Side effects
- • Nausea, diarrhoea
- • Visual disturbance with prolonged use
- • Seizures at high IV dose
