Sulfasalazine
Dose
500 mg PO OD, increase weekly to 1 g BD (max 3 g/day).
Use
Rheumatoid and peripheral psoriatic arthritis; ulcerative colitis.
Monitoring
FBC and LFT monthly ×3 then 3-monthly.
Side effects
- • Nausea, headache
- • Reversible oligospermia
- • Orange discoloration of urine/lenses
- • Neutropenia, rash
