Zoledronic Acid
Dose
4 mg IV over 15 min for malignant hypercalcaemia/bone metastases; 5 mg IV annually for osteoporosis.
Use
Hypercalcaemia of malignancy, skeletal-related event prevention, osteoporosis.
Monitoring
Calcium, vitamin D, renal function before each dose; dental review before starting.
Side effects
- • Acute phase flu-like reaction
- • Hypocalcaemia
- • Osteonecrosis of the jaw
- • Renal impairment
