Sumatriptan
Dose
50–100 mg PO at onset (repeat once after 2 h, max 300 mg/24 h); 6 mg SC for cluster headache.
Contraindications
- • Ischaemic heart disease
- • Uncontrolled hypertension
- • Prior stroke/TIA
- • Hemiplegic migraine
Use
Acute migraine and cluster headache abortive therapy.
Monitoring
Chest tightness, BP, medication-overuse headache (>10 days/month).
Side effects
- • Chest/throat tightness
- • Flushing, paraesthesia
- • Drowsiness
