Phenylephrine
Dose
Bolus 50–200 mcg IV; infusion 0.5–5 mcg/kg/min.
Indications
- • Anaesthesia-related hypotension
- • Neurogenic shock (bridge)
- • AVNRT with hypotension
Contraindications
- • Severe hypertension
- • Uncorrected hypovolaemia
Dilution & preparation
10 mg in 100 mL NS = 100 mcg/mL
Use
Pressor when tachycardia undesirable (e.g., AS, HOCM).
Monitoring
BP, HR (reflex bradycardia).
Side effects
- • Reflex bradycardia
- • Peripheral ischaemia
- • Extravasation necrosis
