Dose

40 mg PO OD; GI bleed: 80 mg IV bolus then 8 mg/h × 72 h post-endoscopy.

Use

Peptic ulcer bleeding, GORD, stress-ulcer prophylaxis when indicated.

Monitoring

Magnesium and B12 on long-term use, C. difficile risk, deprescribe when no indication.

Side effects

  • Headache
  • Diarrhoea
  • Hypomagnesaemia
  • Increased enteric infection risk
