Colchicine
Dose
500 mcg PO 2–4 times daily until relief (max 6 mg/course); 500 mcg OD–BD as prophylaxis during urate-lowering initiation.
Use
Acute gout, pericarditis, familial Mediterranean fever.
Monitoring
Renal and hepatic function; reduce dose with clarithromycin, ciclosporin, verapamil.
Side effects
- • Diarrhoea (dose-limiting)
- • Myopathy
- • Bone marrow suppression in overdose
