Dose
Start 1–2 mg/h IV; double q90 sec; usual 4–6 mg/h; max 21 mg/h.
Mechanism
Arterial vasodilation; hydrolysed by plasma esterases.
Indications
- • Perioperative/hypertensive emergency
Contraindications
- • Egg/soy allergy
- • Defective lipid metabolism
- • Severe AS
Dilution & preparation
Ready-to-use 0.5 mg/mL lipid emulsion
Use
Precise BP control when nicardipine unavailable.
Monitoring
Continuous BP; lipid load if prolonged infusion.
Side effects
- • Reflex tachycardia
- • Hypertriglyceridaemia
- • Atrial fibrillation
