Chloramphenicol 0.5% Eye Drops
Dose
One drop 2-hourly for 48 h then 4-hourly; ointment nocte. Treat for 48 h after resolution.
Use
Acute bacterial conjunctivitis, corneal abrasion prophylaxis.
Monitoring
Review at 48 h if no improvement — consider herpetic or contact-lens keratitis.
Side effects
- • Transient stinging
- • Allergic reaction
- • Very rare aplastic anaemia
